Practice Areas

Michael Carrigan is a partner in the Property department. He specialises in commercial property but has wide experience in all areas of property development.  Michael's experience is such that he is often called upon to act as an expert witness in property disputes and professional negligence claims. 

Michael is also a practising arbitrator.  He has acted as sole arbitrator in over 100 domestic arbitrations in most of which he was appointed either by the President of the Law Society or by the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators - Irish Branch or was appointed by agreement of the parties. In addition, he has acted as a sole arbitrator in an international arbitration under appointment by the International Chamber of Commerce.

Admitted as a solicitor in 1969

Membership of Chambers / Bodies

He is currently the member for Ireland of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and is also a member of the International Roster of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is a former Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators - Irish Branch. He is a former Chairman and a current member of the Arbitration and Mediation Committee of the Law Society. He lectures on arbitration in the Society's Law School and is the author of A Handbook on Arbitration Law in Ireland which was published by the Law Society in 1998.

He is currently a member of the Solicitors' Disciplinary Tribunal appointed by the President of the High Court.

Achievements and Endorsements

Michael was Chairman of the Society of Young Solicitors (1974 - 1975) and President of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (1985 - 1986).  He is an Honorary Member of The Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association.
