Practice Areas

Garrett is a partner in the firm's Corporate & Banking Department in which he advises on company and commercial matters.  He has considerable experience in transactional work, contractual matters and corporate advisory issues, particularly in regulated markets.

His practice concentrates on non-contentious insurance law and regulation including the establishment and authorisation of insurers, the provision of cross-border services, ongoing supervisory issues, compliance obligations, new product development, policy wording and the winding up of insurers.  He has advised a wide range of leading domestic and international insurance companies on the sale, purchase and/or absorption of businesses and the consolidation and restructuring of their existing operations.

The firm's client base includes various life and non-life insurers, reinsurers, and different types of intermediaries. Garrett also advises extensively on all aspects of insurance mediation, including authorisation and regulation of insurance intermediaries and various contractual arrangements between an insurer and its intermediaries.

Garrett is a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and the Irish Environmental Law Association.

Achievements and Endorsements

Garrett was for some time the editor of the Irish chapter of Butterworth's "European Tax and Investment Guide" and has contributed to books and leading journals. He has written articles on regulated areas such as insurance, financial intermediaries, energy, competition, and the environment. He has also contributed to international publications on subjects including inward investment, corporate governance and share capital.
