Market Update

08-04-2008 - The increasing global economic uncertainty poses significant challenges to the Irish property market across the residential, office, retail and development sectors. The fire sale of the fifth largest investment bank in the US, Bear Stearns resulted in huge loses in the value of Irish shares, with Irish banks suffering considerably. Reports earlier this month however, claimed the Irish market was performing well considering the economic downturn and credit crunch. The lack of bank funding being made available has had a negative impact on the quantity and scale of property transactions; and the declining lack of confidence in the financial institutions will not improve this trend. Demand, albeit more specific, is still relatively strong across the sectors; it is up to the suppliers to respond to the macro-economic conditions and exploit the opportunities that exist therein. New legislation and planning and environmental initiatives may also assist in performing well through this difficult period. more...
